Principal, Dr. Henry Yu and Assistant Principal, Sandra Shepard felt many would recognize the challenge of creating meaningful conversation between colleagues from different units, and that our own personal networks play a key role in supporting us in our UBC roles. They gained sponsorship support from the Office of the VP Human Resources and together with the steering committee of Eilis Courtney, Director of Ceremonies, Communications and Community Partnership, Alden Habacon, Director Intercultural Understanding Strategy Development, and Shirley Nakata, Ombudsperson for Students, “Hot Lunch” was born.
The first session took place at St. John’s College where feedback and input was gathered in shaping the next four sessions that will be held on the last Wednesday of each month until May. Over a delicious Italian buffet prepared by the St. John’s Dining Society, faces were put to names, ideas brought forth and exciting possibilities discussed.
Lisa Castle, Vice President, Human Resources, spoke on how the initiative came about. Thank you to the sponsorship support of the Office of the VP Human Resources the first luncheon was free and we will be able to offer the next four sessions at the subsidized cost of only $10.
