Overview

Resident Members

Resident members – known as Junior Fellows – are graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and visiting scholars and students who are selected by the Membership Committee on the basis of academic record; international knowledge, experience and/or background; a demonstrated record of community leadership and volunteer activities; and potential for contributing to and benefiting from College life.

St. John’s College offers a limited number of places for long term faculty stays (up to one year), both for new and existing UBC faculty members as well as visiting faculty from other institutions. Faculty members wishing to reside at the College should bring international experience and/or perspective, and must be committed to being involved with Junior Fellows (graduate students) and active in the College community.

Faculty and College Fellows

The Faculty and College Fellows of St. John’s College are UBC faculty members who have accepted an invitation to be actively involved in the life of the College. Through service on standing committees, by organizing talks, conferences and colloquia, in mingling with College residents at formal dinners and social events, our Faculty Fellows play an integral role in the creation of our rich, diverse, international community.

Staff

The staff and administration support Junior Fellows and academic visitors, as well as  play a key role in facilitating lectures, workshops, and larger academic conferences/events that build upon the College’s commitment to international learning. One of the signal features of St. John’s College is our meal plan. Led by Chef Clarence Tay and his staff at Culinary Service, provide high-level cuisine drawn from culinary traditions around the globe, with particular focus on Asian cuisines that reflect our rich trans-Pacific ties.
